Here is the topo with our route and elevation.
Spending the night in the mini-van. "Mini-van...mega-fun"...as Timmy's shirt says. Check out the big dipper.
We hit up the hot springs across the way for a good rest the night before. Hilltop Hotsprings...a nice muscle relaxing 105F
Here is our 3:30 am departure. The full moon helped us out until 5:45, when it set...but the sun came up around 6:15, so it never really got dark.
So here is sunrise... 6:20...with our first look at Red Slate Mtn.
And the Couloir
Closer view. We didn't summit as we didn't want to do the "death traverse" (you'll see it later) into the couloir as we had read about, so we opted to boot up it as far as we could.
A nice halo next to red slate mtn.
We took a nice long rest at the lake, ate some food, hung out in the sun for a little while.
what a dirt bag!
Ready for some bootin'
We took a "test run" too check on the conditions...as it was pretty scary going up. But after a few quick turns we decided that the conditions were good to go, and started booting back up.
Here is the death traverse. One slip and it'd be a long way down...it was pretty scary looking...so we were glad we didn't have to do it.
Me a the top of where we stopped. The death traverse on my left and the couloir on my right.
For some movies, check out the other folder.
Looking back up what we just skiied.
Nick and the couloir
One last view of the peak
We could ski most of the way back down to convict lake. We had to post hole out the last mile or two...which wasn't much fun. The lake was definitely NOT frozen.
Back at the car some 12 hours later...ready for some brewski.
